Share only what you want the family to see.

Claiming a duck is optional. Keep or re-hide is the only required answer. You may also share a first name, broad home location, who you’re traveling with, a short story, a date, one rough location point, and a photo. We do not ask for an account, email, phone number, cabin number, or marketing permission.

Private first, public only by permission

Your keep or re-hide choice may update the duck’s anonymous status immediately. Everything personal starts in a private family review queue. Separate checkboxes control whether written details, a photo, or an approximate map point may appear on a Quacker Profile and in The Finds. Those permissions are off by default, and family approval is still required.

Rough location, never tracking

The site asks for device location only if you tap “Use my location.” It captures one point, rounds it to a coarse grid before sending, and does not watch or track your movement. Public map use has its own separate permission. Exact GPS coordinates are not stored.

Photos and likeness

Before uploading, you must confirm permission to share the photo and the likeness of everyone shown, including parent or guardian permission when a child appears. Original uploads remain private. Any public image is a separate, resized copy with embedded phone metadata removed, and it appears only after finder permission and family review.

Retention

We keep submitted data only as long as it is useful for reviewing the claim, operating the current cruise, and maintaining any finder history you approved for publication. Rejected or abandoned material is queued for periodic cleanup, but this small family site does not promise an automatic deletion deadline. To request removal of a private submission or an approved public entry, email admin@quackaboard.com and we will handle it directly.
